TREATED LIKE FAMILY

WHERE SAN ANTONIO COMES TOGETHER

For more than 40 years, Alamo Cafe has been where San Antonio gathers — for birthdays, game days, family dinners, and everything in between. It’s where queso meets conversation, and where every guest is treated like family.

FAITH, FAMILY, AND A DREAM

THE START OF SOMETHING SPECIAL

Back in 1981, Pat Hanlon teamed up with his former Wendy’s franchise owners, Jesse Hellums and Buzz Roman, to bring something new to San Antonio’s North Side — high-quality Tex-Mex food served with genuine hospitality.

With faith, family, and a dream, Alamo Cafe opened its doors and quickly became a neighborhood favorite.

Even then, it wasn’t just about food. It was about people — sharing meals, laughter, and memories that would last a lifetime.

HIGH-QUALITY MEXICAN FOOD

FRESH IS HOW WE DO IT

At Alamo Cafe, everything starts from scratch.

Our flour tortillas are rolled by hand every day, our queso is made fresh, and our plates are filled with the same homemade care you’d find in your own kitchen.

Guests can still watch tortillas being made right on the line — a tradition that’s been part of the experience since day one

Because we believe you can taste the difference when food’s made with heart.

CONTINUING THE LEGACY

A FAMILY TRADITION, PASSED DOWN

As the years went by, Alamo Cafe became more than a restaurant — it became part of San Antonio’s story.

Today, Pat’s children, Kasey Vanacek and Pat Hanlon Jr., continue his legacy with the same spirit and love for this city that started it all.

They’ve kept everything guests cherish about Alamo Cafe — the fresh food, the friendly faces, and the family feel — while leading it into a new generation of tradition and innovation.

THE HEART OF ALAMO CAFE

our people make it home

Behind every plate of fajitas and every basket of warm tortillas are the people who make it happen. Many of our team members have been with us for decades — growing up here, meeting friends here, even raising families here.

That connection extends far beyond our guests. For many, Alamo Cafe has been their first job — a place to learn what hard work and teamwork truly mean. Lifelong friendships have been formed here, and even a few love stories.

Our people — past and present — are the reason this restaurant feels alive. They bring the energy, pride, and heart that make Alamo Cafe what it is.

It’s more than a workplace. It’s a family. And that spirit shows up in every meal we serve and every smile that greets you at the door.

SERVING SAN ANTONIO MEANS GIVING BACK TO IT.

ROOTED IN COMMUNITY

We’re proud to support local schools, nonprofits, and neighborhood events that make our city shine. From Spirit Nights and fundraisers to employee volunteer days, Alamo Cafe is built on the same foundation that’s kept us going all these years — community, connection, and care.

come be part of the tradition

Whether it’s your first visit or your fiftieth, you’re part of the Alamo Cafe family.  Because here, it’s not just about the food on your plate — it’s about the people around your table.
