In 1996, we moved from our original San Pedro location to Highway 281, where this spot quickly became a gathering place for families, friends, and celebrations of all kinds. Nearly 30 years later, we’re proud to keep that tradition alive every day.

Welcome to Patio 81, one of Alamo Cafe’s two full bars located at 281 & Bitters. With plenty of seating and a laid-back San Antonio atmosphere, it’s the perfect place to grab a margarita, enjoy happy hour, or catch up with friends.
Patio 81’s indoor-outdoor layout makes it great for private gatherings and corporate events. The sliding doors open wide on those beautiful weather days, creating the ideal spot to relax and celebrate.
Join us Thursday through Sunday afternoons — or any day in December when the patio’s open for everyone!

There’s nothing quite like a warm, fresh tortilla straight from our Tortilla Factory. At Alamo Cafe, we make thousands every day — right here in-house — so every guest can enjoy soft, flavorful tortillas made to order. It’s a tradition we’ve been proud to share with San Antonio since 1981, and it’s just one of the reasons families keep coming back for generations.

Do you take reservations?
We do not take reservations. Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis. If we are currently on a wait and your party is 15 or less, join our waitlist by clicking the link below. All parties of 16+ must call the restaurant to be added to the waitlist.
Is parking available?
Absolutely! Each of our locations has ample free parking for your convenience.
Do you offer curbside pickup or delivery?
Absolutely! Whether you’re swinging by for curbside pickup or want your Alamo Cafe favorites delivered, we’ve got you covered. Order through DoorDash, Uber Eats, Grubhub, or right on our app or website.
Do you allow outside cakes or desserts for celebrations?
Yes! You’re welcome to bring in an outside cake or dessert to celebrate. We’ll be happy to store it in our walk-in refrigerator. Please make sure your name and number are listed on the box.
Is your restaurant kid-friendly?
Absolutely! Families are always welcome at Alamo Cafe! Kids love exploring our interactive, kid-friendly menu and playing in the arcade, while parents relax and enjoy their favorites.
Are pets allowed on the patio?
Yes, we’re always happy to welcome pets on our patio! We kindly ask that you enter through the patio gate when bringing your pet, rather than walking through the main dining area.
Why is there a river running through the restaurant?
The river is a tribute to the San Antonio River and the Riverwalk. There is nothing more soothing and relaxing than the sound of water!
What is the story behind the sky in the entryway at 281?
The inspiration for our painted Texas sky came from a trip to Las Vegas and a visit to the Forum Shops at Caesar’s Palace shortly after it opened in 1992. The feeling of being indoors but surrounded by a sky so realistic it felt like you were outside made a big impression on our team. We knew it was the kind of experience guests would remember and talk about long after they left the restaurant.
We decided to bring that same sense of wonder to Alamo Cafe. After struggling to find anyone who could truly capture the look and feel of the Forum Shops ceiling, we reached out to the original artists behind it — theatrical lighting expert Ed Peterson and sky painter Karen Kristin, known for her incredibly lifelike skies.
When we saw the finished mural, we knew we’d made the right choice. The sky was stunning, and it brought that same unforgettable feeling we’d hoped to share with our guests.
